Sri Lanka Association of Urological Surgeons (SLAUS) is the
association for practicing urological surgeons and urology related
specialities in Sri Lanka. It was incorporated in 1999. The
membership at the inception was mere 15 Urologists and currently
having a membership strength of 65. Its constitution resembles that
of BAUS and has remained unchanged since inception.
The Association's main objective is to develop the art and science
of urology practice in Sri Lanka enhancing the knowledge and skills
of its members for the betterment of the patients with urological
needs in the country. At present there is a fair distribution of
specialists in all nine provinces of the country and all major
public hospitals are manned by members although the majority is
concentrated in the western province.
Over the years it has grown in stature and at present is a member
country of UAA and SAUS. SLJU is its scientific publication and
corresponding international journal is the JCU. SLAUS has formally
adopted the EAU guidelines for local practice and from last year has
embarked on certification of specialist training under the aegis of
CSSL. At present active MOU exists between SLAUS and USI and BJUI
for technical corporation and in the process of expanding its
horizons internationally with major urological alliances worldwide.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Association. To
commemorate this significant milestone, year around academic and
training activities are being implemented. The culmination of the
celebration will be the much awaited 25th Anniversary International
Urology Conference slated for November 2024 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
